The dream of a global movement

MVMT was founded by entrepreneurs Jake Kassan and Kramer Laplante in 2013, Los Angeles. The two men were frustrated by the high market prices of watches and were both of the opinion that a stylish watch should be accessible to everyone. This opinion evolved into the philosophy behind the brand as the two men took the jump to start their own business. To gather the funds for starting their own brand, the men started a crowdfunding campaign that turned out to be very successful. The fact that MVMT was built from crowdfunding meant a great deal to the founders since it was their wish that the brand would become “the watch brand of the people”. 

In a few years MVMT became a major success, not just nationally in the US but in time also internationally. The success of the brand is attributed in large part to the followers of the brand who spread the word. In 2018, just five years after the brand was launched, it had sold more than 1 million watches globally. The milestone underlined what the founders suspected, that focus on the customer was key to a successful brand. Because of this, being inspired by and listening to customers is essential for MVMT as a brand. It has allowed the brand to become part of a community. The founders say that “MVMT is built for those who strive for adventure, the creatives and daring, who are not afraid of going against the norms. We create watches with the purpose of inspiring our customers to reach their dreams, just as they helped us reach ours. We wish to inspire them to live life by their own terms.”
